About Goymour Homes

For over a century, the Goymour name has been an Integral part of the Bury St Edmunds community, built on a tradition of hard work, innovation, and exceptional customer service. What began as a family bakery in 1909 has evolved into one of the region's longest-established and most trusted residential lettings and property management companies.
 
Our story began on Empire Day in 1909, when Charles Alfred Goymour purchased 10 Hatter Street, Bury St Edmunds, and established a bakery.  Through determination, entrepreneurial spirit, and a commitment to quality, he modernised the business, introducing new baking equipment and the town's first motorised delivery vans. The bakery flourished, supplying bread to local hospitals, military barracks, and surrounding communities. During the First World War, production reached an impressive 46,000 pounds of bread each week, making the business a significant contributor to the local economy.
 
In 1923, Charles's son, Charles Harold Goymour, joined the business, bringing fresh ideas and helping to drive its continued growth. Over the following decades, the business expanded across Suffolk and Norfolk, developing a network of bakeries and delivery routes and this led to the formation of C. A. Goymour & Son in 1929, marking the next chapter in the family's history. 
 
As market conditions changed the family identified new opportunities beyond the bakery trade. In 1952 the bakery business was sold but retained the properties associated with the business and Charles Harold began investing in residential property, acquiring homes to meet growing housing demand especially by American servicemen stationed in the area, laying the foundations for what would become Goymour Homes. The values that had made the bakery successful—reliability, personal service, and strong community ties—became the cornerstone of the property business.
 
Following his retirement from the bakery trade in 1952, Charles Harold purchased Grove Farm in Banham, just over the border in Norfolk but continued to pursue new ventures.  His son, Martin, grew up within the business and continued the family ventures including the creation and development of Banham Zoo, and Africa Alive! in Kessingland, and acquisition and development of the Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade, Norfolk and now his own son Charles Adam Goymour is at the helm as Managing Director – The entrepreneurial legacy remains a defining part of the Goymour story.

Over the years, Goymour Homes has grown into one of Suffolks most established independent letting and property management specialists, managing a diverse portfolio of homes across Suffolk and Norfolk and in 2002, the company proudly returned to its original home at 10 Hatter Street following the careful restoration of the historic 16th-century building, bringing the business full circle.
